The Chicagoland Section Board of Directors hosted a Recognition Lunch at the Greek Islands Restaurant in Chicago on March 15, 2020, honoring the contributions and enthusiasm of long-time member Al Johnson, Jr.

Al's father, Al Johnson, Sr., broke barriers in the automobile industry and became the first African-American to be awarded a new car franchise by General Motors, and progressed to own the fourth largest Cadillac dealer in the United States in Tinley Park, Illinois, a south Chicago suburb. Al Jr. became the Finance and Insurance Manager, Fleet Sales and Leasing Manager, and Company Secretary-Treasurer.  After the family sold the dealerships, Al Jr. became a sales consultant with Mercedes-Benz of Orland Park in 1998, and retired 20 years later.  Al Jr. is currently Co-Chair of Membership for the Chicagoland Section of MBCA, and still embodies infectious enthusiasm to the Mercedes-Benz marque.
